Our next session on Saturday 7th November will be in the School Room in Castle House at the Museum of Somerset (not in the Learning Room as usual) and will run from 10.30am – 12.30pm.
Castle House is the building on your right as you enter the museum courtyard and there will be one of our Team keeping a lookout when you arrive.
The topic for the session will be the amazing discoveries at the Banwell Bone Caves!
If you haven’t already done so, please email to book your place for this fascinating session about a truly unique discovery!
The caves were accidentally found by miners in 1824 and contained thousands of Ice Age animal bones (not human), dating to around 7,000 years old.  This discovery was before Charles Darwin and his Theory of Evolution and so caused quite a stir at the time.
In this session we will be joined by John Page who is an expert on the caves, and Clare Randall who is an archaeological animal bone specialist.
